Of the total 5 hectares of land to be acquired, only 8% already in the payment stage – the rests are still in the negotiation process.
Construction of the MotoGP circuit at the Mandalika Special Economic Zone will begin in September 2019. The Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is targeting to complete it in less than a year.
‘’ Circuit construction will not be more than one year. Because we only build the road. “The stands and other facilities will be knock down,” said ITDC Commissioner Gita Ariadi on Friday, May 3, 2019.
“In June of this year, the location of the circuit construction will be fenced off. ” September, physical construction will begin, ” he said.
This means that Mandalika Circuit will be completed before the end of 2020. However at present, ITDC is still finalizing the design of the circuit.
In 2020, a year before the 2021 MotoGP schedule, the organizer, Dorna, will conduct an evaluation to decide whether the Mandalika MotoGP will take place in the beginning of the year, mid-year, or at the end of 2021.
Gita explained, now ITDC is resolving the issue of land acquisition in Mandalika. In the negotiation phase carried out by ITDC with residents, many have found an agreement.
Gita revealed that the MotoGP event at Mandalika will not only busy Central Lombok, but also affect other districts / cities on the islands of Lombok and Sumbawa, where visitors will look for accommodations and tourist destinations
ITDC has allocated budget of Rp500 billion (USD 35 million), to finance the construction of the MotoGP circuit. The budget will be spent in stages according to construction progress.
The ITDC Director of Operation and Construction, I Gusti Ngurah Wirawan said that the budget was sourced from the ITDC loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which was intended to finance the construction of basic infrastructure in the Mandalika area. ITDC, in total, submitted a loan of around Rp. 3.6 trillion (USD 250 million) from AIIB.
During the circuit construction , ITDC will build only the base layer. As for the final layer of the track, it will be the responsibility of Vinci, who has special expertise in paving race track.
Construction of the circuit is currently in the process of finalizing circuit design. At the same time, the ITDC is also working on land acquisition that will be affected by the construction of the MotoGP circuit. Of the 5 hectares of land that must be acquired, only 4000 sq.m entering the payment process. The rest (more than 90%) is still in the process of negotiating prices.
While waiting for the land acquisition process, in the near future ITDC will begin fencing the construction area. So all stages of preparation are carried out almost simultaneously. In September all preparations must have been completed and construction can begin immediately.
Looking at this progress, do you think the circuit construction will be completed next year??
