Being able to hold a motorsport championship in the MotoGP level is an honor for Indonesia. The country will be visited by world class drivers in the 2021 season. The track that has the concept of “street circuit” will be built in Mandalika, Lombok.

Many parties doubted the implementation of the MotoGP in Indonesia as stated by Mark Hughes from the MRK1 Consluting who took care of the construction of the Mandalika Circuit. He admitted that many parties were hesitant when they announced the construction of this circuit.
“We really saw a doubt when first announcing this project. Many are skeptical about the concept of street circuits, “Hughes was quoted as saying by Crash.

Mark stressed that the construction of the track for the Mandalika Circuit “was made with the FIM safety standard for the MotoGP championship.” Mark added the design of the track will also follow the existing standards for MotoGP.

Dorna’s CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, is also aware of the safety factor that is a concern for many parties considering the Mandalika Circuit will be the first street circuit in the MotoGP . Ezpeleta said “we always say that we will not race on street circuits, but this (the Mandalika Circuit) will have all road circuit facilities with total safety and security for drivers.”
