Many questions from racing fans, about the plan to hold the Indonesian MotoGP in Mandalika, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara in the upcoming 2021.
One of those questions, is the origin of the MotoGP in Mandalika, which has been able to attract Dorna to present the most prestigious motorcycle racing.
Let’s look at the review, from an interview with Abdulbar M. Mansoer, Director of the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).
The name of the ITDC appears a lot in the Indonesian MotoGP news, so we better know its history first.
“Actually, our company has been established for a long time, it has been 45 years,” Abdulbar opened.
“In the past it was called the Bali Tourism Development, because we are the market for five-star hotels abroad, so we are known as BTDC, Bali Tourism Development Corporation,” he added.
To widen our business scope, in 2016 we obtained permission to change our name to ITDC.
“Since then we have been trusted to work on other tourism destination areas besides Bali in Indonesia,” said Abdulbar.
“We are a State-Owned Enterprise, under the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and our job is to advance tourism in Indonesia, to develop tourism destinations that can bring in foreign and domestic tourists,” he explained.
“So, it is hoped that Indonesia will have 10 new Bali and that it is a program that we are asked to succeed. Well, this Mandalika is one of them.” call Abdulbar.
Mandalika itself has been at ITDC since 2008, but the work began in 2012.
Only in 2015 after new management entered, and the design master for Mandalika Region was final, work began in 2016-2017.
“Initially we wanted to start as we have done in Nusa Dua, Bali,” said the man who graduated from Gajah Mada University.
“A destination integrated tourism or an integrated resort,” explained Abdulbar, about the Mandalika concept.
That way, tourists who come can enjoy as they are in Bali, ranging from golf, beaches and conventions.
But according to the man who was born in Solo, Central Java, surely all the concepts from Nusa Dua cannot be applied to Mandalika.
That’s because in Bali, Nusa Dua is plotted as a luxury destination.
So, in Nusa Dua there are all five-star facilities, and also for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions).
“While in Mandalika, our concept is Sport and Destination. But, there are words in front of it, namely sustainable,” explained the man born in 1969.
Because the concept is sustainable, natural resources can be maintained.
ITDC has also invested in processing seawater into ready-to-drink water, in order not to damage the environment, and also not take ground water.
Likewise with electricity needs, some use solar panels.
In addition, there are more than 40 percent area in Mandalika for green areas.
“So why do we choose Sport Entertainment, because in Lombok we need attractions that can align with Bali,” he added.
As is well known that the international MotoGP event is to be held in Lombok because geographically, Lombok is very close to Bali, besides the popularity of Lombok today is indeed increasing globally, from its scenery and culture.
“In tourism, there are three terms, a destination must have nature (nature), culture (culture) and man made (man made)” said Abdulbar.
Therefore, in Mandalika this must be added, with man made infrastructure that is world class.
“That’s where it got into MotoGP. That was the beginning we went into MotoGP,” Abdulbar opened.
“So, our approach is more to tourism. Because this MotoGP is the most famous racing event in the world with 400 million viewers, 30 million followers, so we point it there,” Abdulbar concluded.
So let’s wait for ITDC’s progress in realizing Motogp Mandalika racing.
Because there are many world racing fans, waiting for MotoGP to return to Indonesia.
