Recently the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro inaugurated new circuit in Rio de Janeiro, which is planned to replace the Jacarepagua circuit which was demolished to build Olympic area.
In addition, the name of this circuit will also use the name of the legendary F1 driver from Brazil, Ayrton Senna. The naming is also to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Senna’s death this year.
Aryton Senna died on the Enzo e Dino Ferrari Autodromo, Imola on May 1, 1994, when he was leading the San Marino GP race. The F1 legend died at the corner of Tamburello, a bend name that has now been removed from the circuit.
To commemorate Ayrton Senna, Bolsonaro also transferred the 2020 Brazil F1 title to this circuit, so that F1 on the Interlagos circuit this year will be the last.
Besides that, Bolsonaro also intends to hold a MotoGP on this circuit in 2021 or 2022. The circuit for motorbike racing is planned to be completed within 6 to seven months, as reported by the Herald Sun.
With this plan, certainly the competition to host MotoGP in 2021 will be even tighter. Let us support the government’s plan to immediately start and complete the construction of the Mandalika circuit on schedule, in order to be able to compete as host in MotoGP 2021.
